How to wear smart casual

Those dreaded words... Smart Casual! What does it mean? I also struggle with this myself and so here are three ideas. As always, you don't have to stick exactly to them but hopefully they'll give you some inspiration.

Skater dress

A skater dress is easy to dress up or down. The pink pastel colour I've gone for also gives it a very sweet feel to it and contrasts with the black tights and studded boots. A brown leather jacket will make a dress look more casual and gives it more of a daytime feel. Patterned tights are also great for dressing down a formal outfit or dressing up a very casual outfit.

A close-up of the tights. I got them for £4 in the Topshale sale earlier this month.
Peplum + Jeans

Peplum tops are ridiculously versatile and can be worn on a day out shopping, on a night out or even to college. I bought this one last month from New Look for £7. It could be worn, as I have, with jeggings or skinny jeans or leggings. It's best to wear something tight-fitting at the bottom to create more of an hourglass shape. Wear this outfit with a less formal jacket such as an over sized hoodie to make it more casual. Of course, you don't have to wear it with heels. I think creepers would work well with this look as well.

Bralette top + Maxi Skirt

This car pattern maxi skirt adds a bit of fun to the outfit. I like wearing a bralette top with a maxi skirt together to keep the outfit playful and classy at the same time. An a line pleated skirt like this is also good for pear shapes as the material skims past your hips rather than hugging them. For a smarter look you could wear a chiffon shirt over a bralette top with black trousers.
